February's Blog - Get on your bike!

Cycling has been top of the agenda for this month here at Knockburn. We have seen all sorts of diverse action during February. There has been a significant focus on developing new coaches to enable more support for the ever-growing Deeside Thistle youths and the local cycling community.

Scottish / British cycling have been up and run a 2 day Level 1 coaching course, this is the first step of any cycling coaches journey. The majority of the participants are associated to the DTCC, however there has been good representation from other local clubs to, this bodes well for the continual development of local cycling and in particular the youth section of the sport. Best of luck to all those new coaches.

In order to help support the coaches, club training and events it is vitally important to have appropriately qualified first aiders. Phil Glennie delivered a specific outdoor / cycling focused first aid course on behalf of Deeside Thistle.

Volicta coaching's, Tim Mackley has delivered 2 workshops during February again on behalf of Deeside Thistle helping to prepare some their members for the upcoming Time Trial season and to get the road race team together to review the 2016 season and to start working on team strategy ready for 2017.

Ythan Cycle Club organised an adults road racing skills day using our track. 25 adults were put through their paces developing group riding skills and tactics lead my Mark Young. We are sure they clocked a good number of laps during the day!

Plus the normal Saturday morning suspects of DTCC youth, with their ever growing numbers. Which in the not to distant future will be able to expand as the newly trained coaches come on-line.
