January's Blog - Triathlon.

2017 seasons has kicked started with a flurry of triathlon activity, it may only be the end of January but with the season a few months off, our up and coming triathletes are working hard ready for the season ahead.

Triathlon Scotland ran their skills school here at Knockburn at the beginning of the month. Skills schools are designed at 11-16 year olds giving them opportunity to; come together, learn new skills, have fun and meet other likeminded people. The aim of the day was 'uneven ground’ with the athletes taking on the varied terrain; running in the woods, up the sand banks, riding the rock garden, taking on the drop-offs and burns, using the cycle track for specific skills and the Sports Academy for strength and conditioning.

The following weekend Triathlon Scotland was back, this time with their foundation squad. With the conditions not ideal, icy under foot / wheel, the 24 members of the squad still worked on their specific individual training plans. Using the trails to work run specific training, Sports Academy for mobility work as well as a long turbo session, a few brave souls took on the cycle track. Although the loch was frozen this did not stop the squad from swimming.... no they didn't go in the loch! Instead they headed into Aberdeen to the Sports Village!

Thought for the month....

It is not just the skills schools kids that are focusing on being their BEST, it should be all of us. A great mindset to have whether it is for training and / or racing....

Be Better – Stay focused and motivated in working towards achieving your best. Embrace Mistakes – Mistakes mean learning; the more you are prepared to make, the more you can potentially learn. Search for Feedback – Don’t wait to be told – be prepared to look and ask for feedback. Tri, Tri and Tri Again – Even Olympic Champions had to learn basic skills; be open and determined too continuously learn and develop.

Triathlon Scotland 2017

Have a great season.
